for everyone
Flipping through PDI today, an ad reads... (page D3)

Flap opens to...

And then the milk formula in the corner.

You can drink all the Enfakid you want, but basic MDAS will still tell you that

9+5 · 2 - (7 · 2)=14 (as proclaimed by the ad) is wrong!

Multiply  7 x 2 to get 14.
9+5 · 2-(14)=14

Multiply 5 by 2 to get 10.
9+10-(14)=14

Multiply -1 by the 14 inside the parenthesis.
9+10-14=14

Add 10 to 9 to get 19.
19-14=14

Subtract 14 from 19 = 5.

Tsk tsk tsk! I wonder who the ad agency is. Heads are going to roll...

Update: We heard from the PDI account executive for the ad... It is apparently a marketing ploy and part of a series of ads until Sunday.

Not sure if this is just a turnaround move on their part.

UPDATE 2:
Two days later.  While I am waiting for our newspapers to get here to the office, Ms. Noemi has updated her blog with the ad that came out today, Oct. 24, page A24 of PDI.

Really, now... That was the big marketing ploy?!?

Obviously, if it was a series, they wouldn't have missed the ad placement deadline and the ad would have come out yesterday. Why risk one whole day to associate your brand to a false statement, especially with the buzz going around?!?

The new ad reeks of a last-ditch effort to save their campaign.

The buzz it has created is unbelievable, I don't envy the agency who has to clean up after this.

As my best friend Myx points out, this will start a new catchphrase --
Make a booboo = Enfakid moment!

LOL! Oo nga! Took me about 5 minutes to make my own computation--that's fast for a dunce at math like myself. Buti na lang Nido kid ako! =)

Lol. Promil ako. But breastmilk is still best for babies! :)

I think it was my lola's lugaw recipe (god bless her). She mixed in small, torn pieces of English language newspapers (Manila Bulletin, I think) in my lugaw bowl when i was a kid, supposedly to help me learn and make me "smart." I don't know if it was effective, but I swear I always feel a pang of hunger every time I smell broadsheets hot off the press.

Haha noticed that this morning too. Well, my officemate (who, we had to note, was a BS Math graduate...hahaha) did and confirmed his computation with us. :-P

Seryoso to Czar?!? Manila Bulletin?!? Wahaha...

I remember we had a maid once who belonged to some sort of cult. And when she wasnt feeling well, she'd write down prayers on a piece of paper, burn it, and put it in a glass of water then drink it and then ta-dah, she's cured!

I was really appalled. I mean, you spend for a full page ad (or a full page and a half, since there was a flap) and you don't take care to check the veracity of your USP?!?
sumthinblue wrote on Oct 22, '08
hahaha!!!
sumthinblue wrote on Oct 22, '08
LOL. The funny thing is, the MJ people surely saw the ad before it was placed. And it got approved!!! And they're selling "intelligence" in a can?!?
sumthinblue wrote on Oct 22, '08
Hahaha after I worked it out I emailed Ms. Queena Lee Chua just to be sure :D
sumthinblue wrote on Oct 22, '08
No idea. I'd want to see their reaction. Hehe.

That's pre-algebra nga eh. Apparently they're not smarter than a 5th grader. Chickoy could have told them they got it wrong.

Yup. I suppose it was her version of alphabet soup. Best served with hard boiled egg. Season with salt.

Balderdash! Marketing ploy, my foot!
sumthinblue wrote on Oct 23, '08
Hahaha... Ang lutong ng "Balderdash!" ah
swikey wrote on Oct 23, '08
Even if it was a marketing ploy, it doesn't make for good advertising when people can obviously spot the errors. So what, are they going to recant the answer to the equation in the next ads? Ngek. They'll probably give us more equations. Sana lang they get the answers right.
sumthinblue wrote on Oct 23, '08
Hahaha... maybe the message is "if your kid drank enfakid, he'll be able to spot the error in this equation?"

Wild goose chase!
hailczar wrote on Oct 23, '08
Sssshhh! Bloeey! You're giving them ideas. They're probably monitoring this site.

noemidado wrote on Oct 23, '08
if it is true that it is a series of ads, why didn't one appear today? is it because the ad is still in the drawing board?
sumthinblue wrote on Oct 23, '08
Spin doctors still working on the next ad, haha...

Plus, if it was meant to be a teaser, they shouldn't have branded it just yet, and risk associating enfakid with a false statement
swikey wrote on Oct 23, '08
A reliable source told me it's deliberate daw. Watch out for the sustaining ad.

Then again, that's all PR. Maybe they're still fixing up the goof, I don't know. It sorta lost credibility already when people pointed out the wrong answer to the equation.
sumthinblue wrote on Oct 23, '08
Yeah, whether it was deliberate or not, i dont think they should take chances with a sensitive product such as milk formula

Tsk..tsk.. sa dami ng taong involved sa paggawa nito, ni isa wala man lang nakapansin - ECD, CD, copywriter. art director, print producer, FA artist, account manager, account director, assistant brand manager, brand manager, marketing director, VP for marketing, and people from their media agency! hay wala ako ma-say!
sumthinblue wrote on Oct 23, '08
That was the BIG marketing ploy? Who are they kidding? It took them an additional day to come out with that copy?

noemidado wrote on Oct 23, '08

BTW, I edited my post to add this new ad.
